Title the assignment Memoir.
Focus on a brief period of time/event. Choose an
event with significance or
life lesson potential.
Use the narrative structure, including many of
the usual elements of
storytelling/plot: Character(s), Setting, Conflict, Drama (Rising Action),
Climax, and Resolution.
Discover the “So What?” in the story (The
writer's contemplation of the
meaning of these events in retrospect).
Use a fictional quality even though the story is
true (Memories are fluid). A
good writer will “paint” the picture with descriptive language- details add
depth.

the events and their
impact will reach the reader. Remember, “No tears in the writer, no tears in
the reader”- Robert Frost.
Align your text to the left hand side of the page.
Utilize block paragraphs, skip a line between paragraphs, and use single spacing.
Use a single basic font that is size 12.
Insert 1 space after periods and commas.
Control standard writing conventions such as spelling, grammar, and punctuation and use them with accuracy and when appropriate. Minor errors must not distract the reader.
