Directions: Create a memoir using a word processing program.
  1. Name the assignment  memoir_assignment.

  2. Save the document in the writing folder.

  3. Use a proper heading. First and Last Name, Class and Period, Date, Assignment Title.

  4. Title the assignment Memoir.

  5. Focus on a brief period of time/event. Choose an event with significance or
    life lesson potential.

  6. Use the narrative structure, including many of the usual elements of
storytelling/plot: Character(s), Setting, Conflict, Drama (Rising Action),
    Climax, and Resolution.

  7. Discover the “So What?” in the story (The writer's contemplation of the
meaning of these events in retrospect).

  8. Use a fictional quality even though the story is true (Memories are fluid). A
good writer will “paint” the picture with descriptive language- details add
    depth.

  9. Use your voice. More personal reconstruction of the events and their
impact will reach the reader. Remember, “No tears in the writer, no tears in
    the reader”- Robert Frost.

  10. Align your text to the left hand side of the page.

  11. Utilize block paragraphs, skip a line between paragraphs, and use single spacing.

  12. Use a single basic font that is size 12.

  13. Insert 1 space after periods and commas.

  14. Control standard writing conventions such as spelling, grammar, and punctuation and use them with accuracy and when appropriate. Minor errors must not distract the reader.

  15. Review all parts of this grade sheet before submitting the assignment for a grade.
